On This Day In History
Way back before either of us were born, like way back almost 250-years ago, in the year 1776 to be exact, the Second Continental Congress (of the not yet United States of America) unanimously adopted the Declaration of Independence, announcing the separation of the 13 colonies’ from Great Britain. The Constitution, subsequently written by these “United Colonies,” would provide the legal and governmental framework for the soon to be United States of America. However, the Declaration Of Independence, created on this day, would be the document that launched a new country governed by the American people.
Fifty-six individuals signed the Declaration Of Independence, although most are now forgotten. Some, however, are remembered to this day. Like Samuel Adams, who had a beer named after him; Benjamin Franklin, who flew a kite in a storm and shocked himself when lightning hit it; Thomas Jefferson, our 3rd U.S. President and also on our Nickle (although we do not see many of those anymore); and then of course John Hancock who was smart enough to sign his name big and fancy, and dead center at the bottom of the document, where nobody could miss it.
Let The Party Begin
The first few years of our countries existence was not a big deal to folks. In fact, observing Independence Day did not became commonplace until after the War of 1812. And it was not until June 28, 1870, that Congress finally passed a law making Independence Day a federal holiday; that gave us a day off to celebrate.
Although the BBQ and Hot Dog were created way before America was on the map, it was not until after we were on the map that these two early inventions came together as a staple celebrating our great nation. Fireworks followed the same path too. Invented way before our nations birth and quickly made famous by these new “Americans” who loved to party and celebrate their independence from England. And do not forget baseball and apple pie! Two more staples of America.

Reviews
“Celebrate Independence Day was another enjoyable rhyming Nuff bedtime story read with the grandkids. This one teaches young readers about the importance of our American independence and how to celebrate it safely. We love the big print of these books and the more challenging words Nuff shares with our young readers. Wonderful illustrations and a some thoughtful references to our American heroes too.” — Ginny
“Celebrating Independence Day is an American tradition. The author does a great job explaining this to kids. Sweet rhyming sentences that are perfect for this age group and are accompanied by adorable illustrations. Not many books on this subject address safety, but this book does – well done. I loved the poems at the beginning and end of the story. A new holiday favorite ❤️” — TCP
“I love how the author included characters of different ages, cultures, and sizes. The best part, in my opinion, was the inclusion of the veteran and memorial gardens. This warms my heart as a military kid.” — Shermaine Perry-Knights
