Nuff, an eight-year-old boy who is in second grade, does not always listen to his parents, is fairly mischievous, and would love to get a pet dog. In fact, the only thing he has been asking for the last few years when his birthday and Christmas roll around is a dog. He probably asks his parents for a dog at least once a week. However, in addition to not listening and being fairly mischievous, Nuff is not the most responsible second grader either. He promises he will take one hundred percent care of his dog. But his parents know, pets are easy until you get one!

More often than not Nuff will just dump whatever he has with him wherever he is at the moment. Whether it’s a toy or the cloths he’s wearing, Nuff has no problem dropping his belongs anywhere in the house. On any given day anyone of Nuff’s family members has a close encounter with something of Nuff’s. Shoes, electronic toys, and even food scraps are a landmine for all to avoid in the wake of Nuff.

Nuff has asked his parents hundreds of times for a pet. He constantly reminds them that when he gets a dog he will feed, walk, and even cleanup the poop. However, due to his lack of responsibility and messiness, Nuff’s parents continue to decline his requests for a dog; even though he promises to take care of his dog one hundred percent of the time. Knowing they will be responsible for the dog, Nuff’s parents continue to successfully deflect his request. Until one day when Nuff just breaks their heart asking for his own dog.

Having convinced his parents that he is ready to accept the responsibilities that come with owning pets, Nuff sets out on a journey of owning his first pet that is more mischievous than he is. The first couple days are easy peasy, because Nuff’s new puppy sleeps most of the time. However, once the puppy is comfortable in his new environment, he quickly starts taking after his new master. Not listening and leaving his own messes behind, Nuff’s puppy quickly gets out of control.

With no other options Nuff’s parents tell him that he either has to step it up and take care of the dog he promised to take care of or the dog will have to go. Not wanting to lose his new best friend and looking for help from an unimaginable source, Nuff needs to become responsible and own up to taking care of the dog he so desperately wanted or say goodbye. It is time that he proves that pets are easy, once you have one.

Reviews

“This book is perfect for any family thinking of getting a pet. It teaches responsibility in a fun and cute way. The illustrations are fun and it is a great read.” — Valerie Yanez

“This book teaches responsibility in a fun and sometimes funny way using a child’s desire for a dog as the motivation for learning how to take care of himself and his responsibilities – in this case, the dog he begged his parents for 🙂 The story is relatable and uplifting as it shows how even when we make mistakes we can learn and often we learn more from the mistakes we make.” — Nancy Giangrasse

“This was another fun read in the Nuff Said book series. The story content was very relatable, as every kids has wanted and asked their parents for a pet (most likely). The story brings up several points that should be considered if you are or thinking of becoming a pet owner. Responsibility is key!” — DT
