Nuff, an eight-year-old boy who is in second grade, like most kids wants the latest and greatest of everything. However, his parents middle class values stop him from being spoiled. According to Nuff those values get in the way of the necessary purchases that make his life better. Saving money would make sense, but he likes spending more cents than he has.

Topping his list of necessary purchases this week is the soon to be released Adventures of Ethnos Video game. Nuff has saved just about every penny he’s received for Christmas, birthdays, and all other special occasion. However, the opening day sale price is still higher than the cash horde he has in his piggy bank.

Or course he’d have more cash on hand had he not made those impulse purchases of candy, toys, Adventure of Ethnos game magazines, and the like. Dropping $5 here and there never seems like much. Until you’re a few fries short of a Happy Meal or several dollars short of our favorite game. But then again, having to handover an unplanned and unexpected $30 to Andrew, one of your best friends, because your dog (the one you are responsible for) decided to chew up his shoe while over for a play date, kind of puts a big dent in your wallet too.

Does Saving Money Make Cents

Nuff’s life’s savings dwindle due to his lack of responsibility. Not keeping a friend’s shoes out of his dogs mouth. Hapless spending on items like: ‘S’tuffed animal, Ethnos character ‘A’ction figure, ‘V’anilla ice cream, ‘I’nflatable raft for pool, ‘N’erf gun, and a friend’s ‘G’ym shoes. He can only imagine he’ll be the last kid on the block to get the video game of the century.

Nuff hopes his dad comes home with lots of change in his pockets and empties them in his hands. Or for another holiday to roll around sooner than later. He wonders how he’s going to fill his half empty piggy bank with enough cents to make dollars. And dollars to make him rich enough to buy the one thing he really wants.

In the end when all is said and done, our mischievous second-grader learns that “S-A-V-I-N-G money makes cents,” Nuff said.

Reviews

“Great story to learn about saving and how small random purchases can take away from savings. Looking forward to reading what Nuff does next.” — Joanne

“Now that the grandkids have learned that saving money is better than spending money, they keep asking grandma for her spare change. It might only be pennies some days, but it sure puts a smile on their faces when they get to count the coins and add them to their piggy banks. Thanks Nuff for teaching the grandkids how to be good savers.” — Ginny

“This book will capture children’s interests and let them know if they really want something it is better to hold on to your money than spend it. I also really like how through the book the author puts certain letters in bold so at the end they spell out the name of the book/theme.” — Carissa Lindsey
